The Royal Australian Regiment – 70th Anniversary Celebrations


The Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a number of events in Canberra over the period 22 to 23 November 2018, including a parade open to the public to be conducted at the Australian War Memorial on the afternoon of 23 November 2018. His Excellency, the Governor General of Australia will be the Reviewing Officer for the parade.

All serving and ex-serving members of the RAR and their families and friends are warmly invited to attend the events as outlined below:

Thursday 22 November 2018  

Infantry Dinner. The Foundation and the RAR Association (ACT Branch) have again joined to host the Royal Australian Infantry Corps Annual Dinner. The Dinner will be held at the Canberra Institute of Technology Restaurant (1st Floor, Building K, Constitution Avenue, Reid) on Thursday 22 November 2018, 1830 for 1900 hrs. Dress will be lounge suit, no medals. Cost is $85.00 per head.

Guided Tours of the Australian War Memorial (AWM). The AWM has kindly agreed to host guided tours focused on significant events and battles associated with the RAR. Guided tours are available on Thursday 22 November and Friday 23 November 2018 with 1000-1130 hrs and 1330-1500 hrs timeslots each day.

Friday 23 November

70th Anniversary Parade. A parade featuring the Queen's and Regimental Colours of all Battalions of the RAR and a Guard from the 8/9th Battalion RAR supported by RAR Pipes and Drums and the RMC Band will be conducted on the Australian War Memorial parade ground commencing at 1530 hrs. His Excellency the Governor General of Australia, will be the Reviewing Officer for the Parade. All serving and ex-serving members of the RAR and their family and friends, as well the ADF and public are invited to attend the parade.

Last Post Ceremony. In acknowledging those members of the RAR who died during their service, the Last Post Ceremony will remember the life and sacrifice of Corporal Kevin Cooper from 2 RAR, who was Killed In Action on 26 July 1953 during the Battle of Samichon in the Korean War. All serving and ex-serving members of the RAR and their families and friends are invited to attend the Ceremony commencing at 1700 hrs.

Your attendance. To ensure adequate seating for the parade, capacity for the Thursday/Friday tours, and support at the Last Post Ceremony, it is requested that you advise the Lead Coordinator, BRIG Simon Gould, of your attendance (including preferred tour timing and whether you request to lay a wreath at the Last Post Ceremony) by no later than 02 November 2018.
