OBJECTIVES OF
THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN REGIMENT FOUNDATION

The Foundation was incorporated under the requirements of the Australian Securities Commission on 15th June 1992 with the objectives of:

  • managing the acceptance, care and management of gifts, endowments, Regimental funds and property;

  • making loans or grants to the Regiment or to a battalion of the Regiment;

  • securing funding or supplementary funding for amenities, recreation and comforts for the Regiment;

  • making, under certain conditions:

    • welfare grants to the widows of members of the Regiment who have died while on military service in peace or war, or to the families of serving members where the need to help alleviate hardship exists; and

    • grants and bursaries to help educate children of members of the Regiment who have died while serving in the regiment.

As sufficient funds are accumulated, other proposals and projects will be considered.

The Foundation provides the supporting structure to finance regimental projects and to help alleviate hardship experienced by some soldiers and their families arising from the exigencies of military service.  The regiment will always need funds which can be used in philanthropic ways for its support.

As a modest beginning, the following have been authorised to date:

  • A memorial at KAPOOKA Soldiers' Chapel to honour departed comrades;

  • An annual prize for a selected individual in each Battalion of the Regiment;

  • Assistance to the next of kin of a soldier killed during operations in Somalia; and

  • Assistance to four RAR soldiers included in an Australian Defence Force running team to compete in the United Kingdom.

The Royal Australian Regiment Foundation is open to contributions as a public fund established "for the comfort, recreation and welfare" of the soldiers of the RAR and to assist in fostering its interests.

The Foundation works for the benefit of the Regiment, the Battalions that comprise the Regiment and, to a lesser extent, the Associations of ex-serving members of the RAR.  The Foundation is a charitable body.  All ranks who have had the honour of serving in the Regiment, in peace or war, are eligible to subscribe.  In addition, donations and bequests of any size will be accepted.

All donations of $2 and above are tax deductible.
